🔍 Why Heatmaps Are Missing in Reporting

Last updated on Nov 03, 2026

📊 What this article covers

Heatmaps can be missing from a report when tracking is incomplete, the selected date range has no visits, filters hide the data, or the report is still processing. Use the checks below before you open a new support chat.

🛠️ Check the report settings first

Most missing heatmaps are caused by the view you are looking at, not a broken account.

  1. Open Keyword Visibility Heatmaps and confirm you are on the correct website or project.
  2. Widen the date range. A short range, especially today only, may not have enough visits yet.
  3. Clear page, device, location, and campaign filters. A filter with no matching traffic will show an empty heatmap.
  4. Refresh the report. If you just installed tracking or changed settings, wait and reload after a few minutes.
  5. Try another browser or a private window so an old cached page is not hiding new data.

⚙️ Confirm tracking is active

A heatmap needs recorded visits. If the tracking snippet is missing, blocked, or installed on the wrong site, the report stays empty.

  • Script installed: Confirm the Search Atlas tracking code is on the live pages you want to measure, including key templates such as the homepage and main landing pages.
  • Correct property: Make sure the code belongs to the same project you opened in reporting.
  • Published changes: If your site uses a cache, CDN, or tag manager, publish the latest version and clear that cache.
  • Blockers: Ad blockers, consent banners, and strict browser privacy settings can stop tracking until a visitor allows it.
  • Real traffic: Open the tracked page yourself after allowing cookies, then return to the report later. Test visits may take time to appear.

🚀 Give new data time to process

Heatmaps are not always instant. After you add tracking or change a page, visits are collected first and then added to reporting. If the site has very little traffic, there may not be enough clicks or scrolls to draw a useful map. Check again after more visitors reach the page, and compare a page you know receives regular traffic.

💡 Common reasons a heatmap stays blank

  • The page URL in the report does not match the live URL, including www, trailing slashes, or language folders.
  • The page was renamed, redirected, or removed, so new visits never reach the tracked address.
  • You are viewing a report section that does not include heatmap data.
  • Your user role can open the project but cannot view that report. Ask an account admin to confirm access.
  • The heatmap finished loading with an error. Reload once. If it still fails, note the project name, page URL, date range, and what you expected to see.

✅ What to do next

Work through the checks in order: correct project, wider dates, no filters, published tracking code, and enough real visits. If the heatmap is still missing after those steps, gather the project name, page URL, date range, and a short description of the empty report.
