⚙️ Fix Unavailable Ads OTTO Optimize Button

Last updated on Oct 29, 2026

📌 What this message means

Optimize Campaigns is disabled while Search Atlas cannot resolve its required OTTO PPC audit playbook. The tooltip “Required playbook not available” indicates that the playbook lookup has not returned a usable playbook. It does not establish a billing, Google Ads connection, or project-setup problem.

💡 Why this happens on the Growth plan

Subscription access and Google Ads authorization are separate from playbook availability. Optimize Campaigns becomes enabled when Search Atlas resolves the required catalog playbook. Buying access does not authorize your Google Ads account, and you do not need to create a project-specific playbook.

  • Confirm your subscription includes the access you purchased if you have an access or billing problem. The “Required playbook not available” tooltip does not itself mean an add-on is inactive.
  • A Google Ads account is connected and you have permission to manage its campaigns.
  • Search Atlas must be able to retrieve its required OTTO PPC audit playbook from the playbook catalog. You should not need to create or complete a project-specific playbook.
  • Campaign data may need time to synchronize after connecting an account. Synchronization affects the displayed campaign data, but it is separate from the required-playbook lookup that enables Optimize Campaigns.

🛠️ Make the Optimize Campaigns button available

  1. Open the project where you expected Ads OTTO to run, not a different site or client workspace.
  2. If you suspect a billing issue, review your subscription and purchased services or contact support. Do not purchase another add-on to resolve “Required playbook not available”; that message concerns the optimization playbook’s availability.
  3. In OTTO PPC, connect Google Ads if necessary and select the account you want to manage. Sign in with a Google login that manages that account and approve the requested access. Reauthorize only if the connection requires it; reconnecting does not repair a missing catalog playbook.
  4. If “Required playbook not available” persists after reloading, contact Search Atlas support. Ask them to investigate the OTTO PPC audit playbook lookup and availability. Do not create a replacement playbook as a troubleshooting step.
  5. Return to your campaigns and refresh the page. When the playbook is available, Optimize Campaigns becomes clickable and Ads OTTO can run.

✅ Check these items if the button is still disabled

  • Select the correct Google Ads account before starting optimization. The required audit playbook comes from the OTTO PPC catalog and does not need to belong to that project.
  • Buying access does not connect or authorize Google Ads automatically. Connect the account if it is not linked, or reauthorize it if access has expired. A working connection does not need to be disconnected and reconnected to address the playbook tooltip.
  • “Required playbook not available” means Search Atlas has not resolved the audit playbook needed by this action. If the message persists, contact support to investigate catalog availability or the lookup request rather than creating a playbook yourself.
  • Sync still running: Newly connected accounts can take a short time to load campaigns. Refresh after the sync finishes.
  • Stale page: Sign out and back in, or refresh, after the add-on status changes.

Do not click Optimize Campaigns repeatedly while it is disabled. Nothing runs until the playbook is available.

💬 When to contact support

Contact support if the add-on is active, Google Ads is connected, a playbook is saved, and the button still shows required playbook not available after a refresh. If you need further assistance, open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and type human teammate to be instantly connected with a member of our team.
