๐Ÿ’ณ How to Cancel a Trial and Stop Charges

Last updated on Oct 26, 2026

๐Ÿ”Ž Overview

It is common to start a trial to test a feature or set up a project for a client, then forget to cancel before the trial ends. If this happened to you, the steps below will help you cancel the trial, check for any pending invoice, and ask our team to review a charge you did not intend.

This is especially relevant if you already have an agency plan under one email address and started a trial under a different email address.

๐Ÿงฉ Why an Unintended Charge Can Happen

  • A trial usually converts to a paid subscription automatically if it is not cancelled before it ends.
  • A trial started with a different email address creates a separate account. Cancelling on your agency account will not cancel it.
  • Starting a trial for a client or a test project can be easy to forget once you move on to other work.

๐Ÿ“ง Step 1: Identify the Account With the Trial

Before you cancel anything, confirm which account the trial belongs to.

  1. Search your inbox for emails from Search Atlas, such as a welcome message, trial confirmation, or invoice.
  2. Note the email address that received them. This is the account that holds the trial.
  3. Log in to the platform using that email address, not your agency plan email.

๐Ÿ›‘ Step 2: Cancel the Trial or Subscription

  1. Log in to the account that started the trial.
  2. Open your account settings and go to the Billing or Subscription section.
  3. Select the option to cancel the plan or trial and follow the on-screen prompts.
  4. Look for a confirmation message on screen and a confirmation email. Keep both for your records.

If you cannot find the cancel option, or you no longer have access to that account, skip to the support steps below.

๐Ÿงพ Step 3: Check for Any Pending or Recent Invoice

  • In the Billing section, review your invoice history for a recent or upcoming charge.
  • Check the invoice date, amount, and plan name.
  • Check your email for a receipt. A receipt usually means the payment has already gone through.

Cancelling the trial stops future charges. If a charge has already been processed, our team needs to review it separately.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Step 4: Ask Our Team to Review a Charge

If you were charged after the trial ended, or you cannot cancel it yourself, our team can look into it. To help us resolve it faster, include the following in your chat message:

  • The email address used to start the trial.
  • The email address of your agency plan, if different.
  • The date and amount of the charge or invoice.
  • A short note that the trial was started unintentionally and you would like it cancelled.
  • Whether you used the trial, for example if you ran any reports or added a client project.

Each request is reviewed individually, so we cannot guarantee a specific outcome. Contacting us as soon as you notice the charge gives the team the best chance to help.

If you need further assistance, open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and type human teammate to be instantly connected with a member of our team.

โœ… How to Avoid This in the Future

  • Set a reminder in your calendar for one or two days before the trial ends.
  • Cancel right after signing up if you only want to test a feature, if the trial remains active until the end date.
  • Use your agency account for client work, so everything stays under one plan and one billing page.
  • Keep a list of the email addresses you use for trials and tests.
  • Read the trial confirmation email, which shows the trial end date and what happens afterward.

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will cancelling my agency plan cancel the trial? No. If the trial was started with a different email address, it is a separate account and must be cancelled separately.
  • Does cancelling a trial refund a charge that has already been made? No. Cancelling stops future billing. Charges already processed need to be reviewed by our team.
  • What if I do not remember which email I used? Search your inboxes for Search Atlas emails, or tell our team the details you do remember, such as the client name or approximate date.
  • Can I keep my work from the trial? If you want to keep it, tell our team before cancelling so they can advise you on the options.
