📘 Why I’m Being Asked to Pay for an Extra OTTO Site (OTTO Quota Explained)

Understand how OTTO site limits work, how promos apply, and why extra charges may appear.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Search Atlas plans include a limited number of OTTO AI–enabled sites.

If you attempt to activate OTTO on more sites than your plan allows, the system will prompt for payment or automatically add an extra OTTO site.

This article explains:

  • How OTTO site quotas work

  • The difference between projects and OTTO-enabled sites

  • Why you may see a charge for an extra OTTO

  • How to verify how many OTTO sites you’re actually using

🧠 Key Concept: Projects vs. OTTO Sites

  • You can create unlimited projects in Search Atlas

  • Only a limited number of those projects can have OTTO AI active

  • Your OTTO quota is a concurrent limit, not a monthly reset

Example:

If your plan includes 5 OTTO sites, only 5 projects at a time can have OTTO enabled.

Any site listed here counts toward your OTTO quota.

💳 Why You May See a Charge for an Extra OTTO You may be charged for an additional OTTO site if:

  • You tried to enable OTTO on more sites than your plan includes

  • An extra OTTO site was added to avoid blocking your workflow

  • Your plan includes fewer OTTO sites than expected Additional OTTO sites are billed per site. Billing applies based on your total OTTO site quota, not individual project activity. If unused slots contribute to charges, consider adjusting the quota to align with active usage.

🎟️ About Promos and Special Offers

Some accounts include promotional OTTO limits (for example, event or cohort promos). Because promos vary:

  • OTTO limits may differ from standard plan defaults

  • Billing may need to confirm which promo is applied to your account If you believe your plan includes more OTTO sites than shown, this usually requires billing review. To optimize your billing, you can reduce unneeded OTTO slots through the account settings when there are fewer active projects. This helps manage costs effectively and provides flexibility for future expansions.

🚨 When Billing Review Is Required

Escalation to billing is appropriate only when:

  • You were charged for an OTTO site

  • Your account should include additional OTTO sites via promo or contract

  • The OTTO usage shown does not match your agreement

In these cases, billing may take up to 24 hours to review and respond.

❓FAQs

❓ My plan says I should have more OTTO sites — why am I being charged?

Your plan may include a promo or special offer that needs billing confirmation.

❓ Does my OTTO quota reset each month?

No. OTTO site limits are concurrent and do not reset monthly.

❓ Why does it say I’m only using 1 OTTO if I thought I had more?

Only sites listed under OTTO SEO Automation count toward OTTO usage.

❓ Can support remove the extra OTTO charge immediately?

Billing review is required to verify promos and adjust charges if needed.

❓ What happens to projects in Deep Freeze?

Projects in Deep Freeze do not count toward the OTTO site quota or incur charges after the Deep Freeze period.

❓ How can I optimize my OTTO site charges?

You can adjust your OTTO quotas in account settings to minimize unused slots while ensuring capacity for future needs.

If OTTO is working and your sites appear correctly under OTTO SEO Automation, the system is functioning as designed.

Billing review is only needed when there is a mismatch between expected OTTO quota and actual charges.
