π What this issue looks like
You update the phone number or opening hours on your Google Business Profile, and the new details show correctly at first. After some time, the old phone number or old hours appear again. This is a known Google listing behavior, not a one-time glitch in your edit.
Search Atlas can push updates to your profile, but Google remains the system of record. Google may later replace a field if another source still publishes the old value, or if someone with access edits the listing again.
π Why hours and phone numbers change back
Google compares your profile with other signals. When those signals disagree, Google often restores the value it trusts most. Common causes include:
- Conflicting listings elsewhere. Your website, directories, social pages, or older citations still show the previous phone number or hours.
- More than one editor. An owner, manager, agency, or another tool connected to the same profile saves an older version after your update.
- Public suggested edits. Google users or Googleβs own systems can suggest hours or a phone number. If accepted, they overwrite your change.
- Special hours versus regular hours. Holiday or temporary hours can make the profile look reverted even when regular hours are correct.
- Unverified or mismatched phone data. A number that is not clearly tied to the business, or that differs from the number on your website, is more likely to be replaced.
- Delayed Google processing. An update can appear live, then be adjusted when Google finishes syncing the profile.
β How to keep the correct details
- Confirm the live profile. Open your Google Business Profile and check the phone number and regular hours there. Search Atlas also shows those fields in its Google Business Profile preview and in GBP Details under Phone Numbers and Business Hours, but those reflect the profile saved in Search Atlas, including changes that are not live on Google yet. Deployed changes can require Google approval and may not appear instantly.
- Update every public source. Put the same phone number and hours on your website, Google profile, and major directories. Use one format for the phone number everywhere.
- Check other users and tools. In Google Business Profile, review who has owner or manager access. Remove people or connections that should no longer edit the listing.
- Review suggested edits. In the Google Business Profile manager, look for suggested changes to hours or phone and reject anything that is wrong.
- Set regular hours and special hours separately. Save everyday hours as regular hours. Add holidays only as special hours so they do not replace your normal schedule.
- Reapply the update once sources match. After the website and citations show the new details, update the phone and hours again in Search Atlas or directly in Google, then recheck after 24 to 72 hours.
- Avoid rapid repeat edits. Changing the same field many times in a short period can slow Googleβs acceptance of the new value.
π οΈ What to check before you contact support
Gather these details so the cause can be identified faster:
- The business name and profile you updated.
- The correct phone number and hours, and the old values that came back.
- The date and time you last saved the change.
- Whether the website or any directory still shows the old phone or hours.
- Whether other people or agencies can edit the Google profile.
- A screenshot of the reverted fields on Google.
If your website still lists the old phone number, Google is likely copying that signal. Fix the website first, then update the profile again.
π¬ When the details still revert
If the phone or hours return after you have aligned your website, removed conflicting editors, and rejected bad suggestions, the listing needs a closer look. If you need further assistance, open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and send your message. A member of our support team will reply in the chat.
Include the checklist above in your message. Support can review the update history and advise on the next step. Google decides the final public listing, so some cases must also be confirmed inside Google Business Profile.
