📊 Rank Tracker NR Results Explained

Last updated on Oct 29, 2026

📊 What NR means in Rank Tracker

NR stands for Not Ranking. It means Search Atlas checked the search results for that keyword and did not find your tracked site inside the results depth for that check, usually the top 100. When a keyword is NR, the ranking position and ranking URL are blank because there is no matching result to display.

NR is a result, not a failed check. A blank position across many keywords, including every keyword in one project, usually means those pages were outside the tracked results at the time of the check.

🔍 Why positions and URLs can be missing

Historical checks store the result from each run. If several dates show NR with no URL, those checks completed and your site was not found. Common reasons include:

  • The page ranks beyond the tracked depth. A result on page 11 or lower is reported as NR.
  • The wrong site, location, device, or search engine is tracked. Rankings are specific to the project settings.
  • The ranking URL does not match the tracked domain. A different subdomain, protocol, or country version will not count.
  • The keyword was added recently. Older dates stay blank until a check exists for that keyword.
  • The page is new, blocked, or not indexed. Search engines cannot rank a page they do not return.
  • Results moved between checks. A keyword can be NR on one date and ranked on the next.

🛠️ How to review the checks

  1. Open the project and go to Rank Tracker.
  2. Confirm the domain, location, device, and search engine match the rankings you expect.
  3. Select the affected keywords and open the position history.
  4. Look for NR on each historical date. A repeated NR means the site was outside the tracked results on those runs.
  5. Compare one keyword you know should rank. If that keyword has a position and URL, tracking is working and the NR keywords are genuinely not ranking in range.

You do not need to recheck every historical date. Past NR rows stay as they were. A new check only adds a current result.

🚀 How to run a manual refresh

  1. In Rank Tracker, select the keywords you want to update. Select all keywords only if you need a full project recheck.
  2. Choose Refresh or Manual refresh.
  3. Review the confirmation message. It shows how many keywords will be checked and the quota that refresh will use.
  4. Confirm the refresh. New positions appear when the check finishes. Keep the page open or return later to see updated rows.

Scheduled tracking continues on your plan cadence. Use a manual refresh when you need a current result before the next scheduled run, such as after publishing or updating a page.

💡 How manual refresh quota works

Each keyword included in a manual refresh uses refresh quota. Refreshing 34 keywords costs quota for 34 keyword checks, not one project check. The exact cost and your remaining balance are shown in Rank Tracker before you confirm, and they follow your current plan limits.

  • Refresh only the keywords you need to conserve quota.
  • A refresh updates the current result. It does not rewrite older NR history.
  • If the site is still outside the tracked depth, the new check will also show NR and no URL.
  • Quota already used by a completed refresh is not returned when the result is NR.
  • If the refresh action is unavailable, your remaining manual refresh quota is used up until the allowance resets.

⚙️ What to do when every keyword is NR

Before spending quota on a full refresh, check the project domain, target location, device, and that the pages can be opened publicly. Correct any wrong setting first. Then refresh a small sample. If those keywords still return NR, the site is not ranking inside the tracked results for that setup. If the sample returns positions, refresh the remaining keywords.
