🛠️ Fix a Duplicate OTTO Pixel

Last updated on Oct 29, 2026

🔍 What a duplicate OTTO Pixel means

OTTO Pixel should load once on each page. A duplicate warning means OTTO found more than one installation, usually because the pixel was added through both a website plugin and a manual code snippet, or through multiple tools such as Google Tag Manager and a theme file.

The warning can prevent OTTO from working correctly, even when the pixel is not visible in the page content. Pixel code usually runs in the page source or through a tag manager.

🧭 Find all OTTO Pixel installations

  1. Open the affected website in an incognito browser window.
  2. Right-click the page and select View page source, then search for OTTO or the OTTO Pixel ID.
  3. Use your browser’s developer tools and open the Network tab. Reload the page and search for requests containing OTTO.
  4. Check common installation locations: the website’s SEO or marketing plugin, the theme header or footer, Google Tag Manager, and any custom code or scripts added by your hosting provider.

🧹 Remove the extra installation

Keep one OTTO Pixel installation and remove every duplicate copy. The safest option is usually to keep the installation created through the recommended Search Atlas connection and remove manually added copies.

  • Disable the OTTO Pixel in any duplicate plugin or integration.
  • Remove duplicate code from the website header, footer, or theme files.
  • In Google Tag Manager, pause duplicate OTTO tags and publish the updated container.
  • Check staging, caching, and security tools that may inject the same script.

Do not remove the only active pixel. If you are unsure which installation to keep, pause duplicates one at a time and check the result after each change.

✅ Confirm the pixel is working

  1. Clear the website, CDN, and browser caches.
  2. Open the website in a private browser window.
  3. Reload a few pages and confirm that only one OTTO Pixel request appears in the browser’s Network tab.
  4. Return to Search Atlas and check the OTTO Pixel status after the website has been crawled or the status has refreshed.

Cookie consent tools may delay the pixel until visitors accept marketing or analytics cookies. Test with consent enabled when validating the installation.

If the duplicate warning remains after removing extra installations, check whether your cache is serving an older version of the site or whether a tag manager container is still publishing the duplicate.
