📉 What this review covers
An organic traffic drop review looks at whether fewer people are finding your site in unpaid search, which pages changed, and which actions are most likely to help next. It is not a promise of rankings or a fixed timeline. Results depend on competition, search demand, site history, and how completely recommendations are implemented.
If you manage more than one site, review each property on its own. Two domains can share a topic and still have very different authority, content depth, and technical health.
📊 Check the drop before changing strategy
Start with a clear picture of what changed so you do not treat a normal fluctuation as a sitewide problem.
- Compare the same date ranges and note seasonality, holidays, or campaign pauses.
- Separate branded and non-branded queries. A brand dip and a content dip need different fixes.
- See whether the loss is sitewide or limited to a few URLs, folders, or topics.
- Check impressions, average position, and click-through rate together. Fewer clicks with stable impressions often points to titles and snippets. Fewer impressions often points to rankings, indexing, or demand.
- Confirm important pages are still indexed and that recent redirects, noindex tags, or template changes did not remove them from search.
🎯 Set realistic expectations
At an early or recovery stage, the first signs of progress are usually cleaner indexing, more relevant impressions, and better positions on priority queries. Meaningful traffic growth often follows later, commonly over several weeks to a few months after changes are live and recrawled.
- Near term: priority pages are indexed, recommendations are deployed, and impression trends stabilize.
- Medium term: target queries move closer to competitive positions and click-through rate improves.
- Later: traffic and leads grow if content, internal links, and site authority support those pages.
On-page fixes alone rarely overcome stronger competitors. Expect the largest gains on pages that already earn impressions or sit just outside strong ranking positions, not on every URL at once.
⚙️ Prioritize OTTO actions by impact
Use OTTO to fix the highest-confidence issues on pages that already get impressions or support your main services. Work in this order:
- Indexing and technical blockers: resolve issues that stop important pages from being crawled or indexed.
- Priority URLs: update titles, headings, and on-page copy so they clearly match the query and the page offer.
- Click-through rate: improve titles and meta descriptions on pages with impressions but weak clicks.
- Internal links: point relevant pages to your most important URLs with clear anchor text.
- Supporting content: fill gaps where searchers need an answer your site does not yet cover well.
Deploy a focused batch, then wait for recrawling before judging results. Changing every page at once makes it harder to see what helped.
🚀 Go beyond on-page fixes
After OTTO on-page work is in place, strengthen the pages that should earn traffic:
- Match search intent with useful, specific content rather than repeating the same keywords.
- Improve page experience, including speed, mobile layout, and clear calls to action.
- Build topical depth with supporting articles that link to core service or product pages.
- Earn relevant mentions and links through useful resources, partnerships, and digital PR. Avoid paid or spam link schemes.
- Track leads or conversions, not rankings alone, so you invest in pages that create business value.
📝 Request a written account review
You can ask a teammate to review your account, explain which OTTO actions matter most right now, and outline realistic next steps. Include the domain for each site, the date the drop started, your main goal, and the pages or queries you care about most. A useful written review summarizes findings, priority actions, and what to expect. It will not guarantee positions or traffic.
