🛠️ Fix Content Genius Generation API 405

Last updated on Oct 29, 2026

💡 What a 405 means

HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed means the URL was reached, but the HTTP method is not accepted on that route. It does not mean the Content Genius record is missing, and it does not mean generation failed after it started. A 405 usually appears when a client calls a retired path, uses GET where only POST is allowed, or sends the request to a read-only article URL.

✅ Supported way to start full generation

For an existing Content Genius record, start full generation inside the platform. Open Content Genius, open the saved article, confirm the brief and target keyword, then choose the in-product action that runs full generation. That action is the supported customer workflow. Do not reuse an older generation URL just because it worked in a previous integration.

  • Use the current Content Genius screen for that record, not a bookmarked or hardcoded request.
  • Keep the same article record. Starting generation does not require creating a second article.
  • If a direct API call returns 405, stop retrying that method on that URL. Repeating GET, PUT, PATCH, or DELETE will not start generation.
  • A retired or moved route should be treated as unsupported. Switch to the in-product flow rather than guessing a new version path.

⚙️ What to expect after you start

A successful start is confirmed in the product, not by a 405 response. After you launch full generation, the article remains on the same record and its status changes from idle or draft-ready to a running state, then to complete when the draft is ready to review. The first screen update only means the job was accepted. It does not mean every section has finished writing.

  1. Stay on the article page after you start generation.
  2. Watch the article status until it shows that generation is finished.
  3. Open the draft and confirm the title, outline, and body are present before you edit or publish.
  4. If status stays unchanged, refresh the article once. Do not fire a second generation while the first job is still running.

🔍 How to check completion

Completion is checked on the Content Genius record itself. When generation is done, the status no longer shows an in-progress state and the full draft is available in the editor. If only part of the article appears, wait for the status to finish before editing, because an in-progress draft can still be updating.

  • Accepted: status changes to a running or generating state.
  • Still working: status remains in progress and the editor may update in sections.
  • Complete: status is no longer running and the full draft can be reviewed.
  • Not started: the page does not change and any external call returned 405 or another client error.

🛠️ If the call still returns 405

Check the method and the URL before you try again. A 405 means that combination is not allowed. Confirm you are acting on the existing article from Content Genius, not an export link, a preview link, or an older versioned path. Avoid sending an empty or custom request body to a route that does not advertise generation.
