🔍 Competitor Analysis Feature Walkthrough

Last updated on Oct 29, 2026

🎯 What competitor analysis does

Search Atlas competitor analysis helps you compare your website with competing domains, understand where they perform better, and identify opportunities to improve your SEO strategy.

⚙️ Set up a competitor comparison

  1. Open the relevant project in Search Atlas.
  2. Go to the competitor analysis or comparison feature.
  3. Add the competitor domains you want to review.
  4. Choose the search engine, location, language, and device settings that match your target audience.
  5. Run the comparison and allow the report to collect the latest data.

Use competitors that target the same audience and search results as your business. Comparing several relevant competitors can reveal broader patterns than reviewing only one domain.

📊 Review the comparison report

Start with the summary metrics to see how your site compares across visibility, rankings, keywords, and estimated traffic. Then review the individual keyword and page-level results to understand what is driving the difference.

  • Shared keywords: Terms where both sites compete. Look for ranking gaps and pages that could be improved.
  • Competitor keywords: Terms where competitors rank but your site does not. These may provide new content opportunities.
  • Top competitor pages: Pages attracting visibility that can help you understand useful topics, formats, and search intent.
  • Ranking differences: Keywords where a competitor ranks above your page. Review relevance, depth, structure, and internal links before making changes.

📝 Find content gaps and topics to cover

Use the keyword and page comparisons to identify subjects competitors discuss that your site does not cover or only mentions briefly. Group related terms by search intent rather than creating a separate page for every keyword.

  1. Identify a competitor page with strong visibility.
  2. Review the main topic, supporting subtopics, questions, and entities covered on that page.
  3. Compare the coverage with your existing page or content plan.
  4. Note missing information, unclear sections, outdated details, and unanswered questions.
  5. Create or update content that provides a more useful, accurate, and complete answer for the reader.

Do not copy competitor content. Use the comparison as research, then create original content that better serves your audience and search intent.

🚀 Prioritize what to fix first

Turn the findings into an action plan by focusing on opportunities with strong relevance and a realistic chance of improvement.

  • Improve pages that already rank near the top of page one.
  • Update pages with relevant content gaps and weak or outdated sections.
  • Create new pages when competitors consistently rank for important topics you do not address.
  • Strengthen internal links from authoritative pages to priority content.
  • Review titles, headings, descriptions, and page structure where rankings or clicks are weak.

Track changes over time and rerun the comparison regularly. Competitor rankings and content change, so a single review should become part of your ongoing SEO process.
