🔁 What the authorization loop means
The MCP CLI Proxy lets Cursor use Search Atlas through a secure sign-in. A normal connection opens the authorization page once, you approve access, and Cursor returns to work. A loop means that page keeps appearing and the connection never finishes.
Your account and projects stay safe. The proxy is waiting for a completed approval that Cursor is not receiving.
🧭 Why the page keeps returning
The loop usually comes from a sign-in that starts more than once, or from an approval that cannot return to Cursor. Common causes include:
- Several authorization tabs or browser windows open at the same time
- An old proxy session still running in the background
- A browser popup, redirect, or localhost callback that was blocked
- Saved sign-in data for a different Search Atlas account
- An MCP entry in Cursor that was added again before the first approval finished
🛠️ Stop the loop and connect once
- Close every authorization tab. Quit the browser window that the proxy opened, and leave Cursor open.
- Stop the MCP CLI Proxy completely. If it is running in a terminal, end that process, then start it again only once.
- In Cursor, open your MCP settings and remove the Search Atlas MCP entry. Do not add it back yet.
- Restart Cursor so it drops the unfinished approval.
- In the browser you use for sign-in, sign out of Search Atlas. If more than one account is saved, choose the account that owns the project before you continue.
- Allow popups and redirects for that browser, and do not block localhost callbacks. Use one normal browser window, not a private window and not a second profile.
- Start the MCP CLI Proxy one time. Add the Search Atlas MCP entry in Cursor again and approve the authorization page only once.
- Wait on that page until it confirms the connection or closes on its own. Do not refresh it and do not open a second approval.
✅ Confirm the connection is stable
The loop is fixed when the authorization page no longer returns and the Search Atlas MCP server shows as connected in Cursor. Send a simple request that you already use, such as asking for a project summary. A successful response means the approval was saved.
If the page appears one more time immediately after approval, close it without signing in again and check Cursor first. Approving a second time can restart the loop.
🚫 What to avoid while reconnecting
- Do not click the authorization link repeatedly
- Do not keep an old proxy terminal running beside a new one
- Do not sign in with a different Search Atlas account during the same attempt
- Do not reinstall Cursor before trying the single clean approval above
