๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Fix Competitor Selection in AI Visibility

Last updated on Oct 29, 2026

๐Ÿ”Ž What This Article Covers

If you have added a competitor domain in AI Visibility and the competitor list will not let you show or hide entries in the charts, your chart may already have reached the 4-competitor limit, or you may need to deselect another competitor first. This guide explains how competitor selection works and walks you through managing your competitors, which usually takes less than two minutes.

๐Ÿค” Why Competitor Selection Stops Responding

When you add a competitor, Search Atlas saves the competitor to your project and updates the list. In the Manage Competitors drawer, you can show or hide competitors in the charts using the visibility toggle, up to a maximum of 4 competitors shown at a time. If 4 competitors are already selected, selecting another competitor is disabled until you deselect an existing one, and changes are applied to your charts when you save.

If a competitor cannot be selected, check whether the chart limit of 4 competitors has already been reached or if an error message appears in the drawer. Your saved competitors remain safely stored on our servers.

โšก Quick Fixes to Try First

Before clearing your cache, try these faster options in order. They resolve the issue for most users:

  • Hard refresh: Press Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows or Cmd + Shift + R on Mac. This reloads the page without using cached files.
  • Private or incognito window: Open Search Atlas in a private browsing window. Private windows skip the cache, so if selection works there, a full cache clear will fix your main browser too.
  • Reload the page: If the competitor list does not update after saving changes, refreshing your browser page re-fetches the latest competitor data directly from the server.
  • Different browser: Log in with another browser to confirm your account and competitor data are intact.

๐Ÿงน How to Clear Your Browser Cache

If the quick fixes did not work, clear your cache. This forces your browser to download a fresh copy of the AI Visibility page. Follow the steps for your browser:

Google Chrome:

  1. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  2. Go to Settings and select Privacy and security.
  3. Click Delete browsing data.
  4. Choose Last 7 days, or All time for a full reset.
  5. Tick Cached images and files. You can leave cookies and history unticked if you prefer.
  6. Click Delete data.

Mozilla Firefox:

  1. Click the menu button and go to Settings.
  2. Select Privacy and Security and scroll to Cookies and Site Data.
  3. Click Clear Data and tick Cached Web Content.
  4. Click Clear.

Safari:

  1. In the Safari menu, choose Settings.
  2. Open the Privacy tab and click Manage Website Data.
  3. Click Remove All, then confirm.

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Click the three-dot menu and go to Settings.
  2. Select Privacy, search, and services.
  3. Under Delete browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
  4. Tick Cached images and files and click Clear now.

๐Ÿ”„ Re-select Your Competitors After Clearing

Once your cache is cleared, follow these steps to confirm the fix:

  1. Close all Search Atlas tabs completely.
  2. Open a new tab and log back into the platform.
  3. Navigate to AI Visibility and open your competitor list.
  4. Click each competitor to select or deselect it. The controls should now respond immediately.
  5. Refresh the page once and check the list again to confirm your changes were saved.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ How to Avoid This Issue Going Forward

  • Perform a hard refresh right after adding a new competitor.
  • Clear your cache every few weeks if you use AI Visibility daily.
  • Avoid keeping the competitor list open in multiple tabs at the same time, because older tabs can display stale data.
