🔍 Fixing Missing GSC Domain Property Data

Last updated on Oct 29, 2026

🔎 Overview

Some customers connect Google Search Console (GSC) to Search Atlas and then can't find their property in the list. Others find it, but no data appears. This is common with domain properties, which look like sc-domain:yourwebsite.com. This article explains why it happens and how to fix it.

🌐 What Is a Domain Property?

In Google Search Console, there are two kinds of properties:

  • Domain property: Covers every version of your site, including all subdomains and both http and https. It appears as sc-domain:yourwebsite.com.
  • URL-prefix property: Covers only one exact address, such as https://www.yourwebsite.com/.

If you see sc-domain: followed by your domain name, that is the same site as your domain property in GSC. It is the correct property to use for tracking your whole website.

❓ Why Your Property May Not Appear or Show Data

These are the most common causes:

  • The wrong Google account is connected. Search Atlas can only see properties that the connected Google account can access.
  • Permissions may be limited. Search Atlas lists every verified Search Console property the connected account can access, including Owner, Full, and Restricted access. An unverified property is not listed. Restricted users can still share the performance data their permission allows. Owner access is required only for actions that specifically check ownership.
  • Search Console permission was not granted. Search Atlas requests read-only Search Console access as part of the Google sign-in. If that permission is denied, or does not appear in the granted scopes, no properties load. There is no separate Search Console checkbox to leave unchecked.
  • The connection has expired. Google sign-ins can expire or be revoked, especially after a password change or security update.
  • The property is new. GSC can take a few days to begin collecting data for a newly added or newly verified property.
  • The date range has no data. If the site had little or no search traffic during the selected period, reports may look empty.
  • The property is not linked to the right project. Search Atlas matches the project domain to a verified Search Console property for that hostname, including a domain property, a www or non-www version, or a parent or subdomain. Choose that match and finish linking it to the project. Connecting the Google account alone does not attach the property.

✅ Step 1: Confirm the Property in Google Search Console

Start by checking that the property is healthy in Google itself.

  1. Go to Google Search Console and sign in with the Google account you plan to use in Search Atlas.
  2. Open the property selector in the top-left corner.
  3. Look for your domain property, for example sc-domain:yourwebsite.com.
  4. Open the property and check the Performance report. Set the date range to the last 28 days.

If the property is missing here, the account you are signed in with does not have access. Try another Google account that manages the site. If the Performance report is empty in GSC, Search Atlas will not have data to show either.

🔐 Step 2: Check Your Permission Level

  1. In GSC, select your domain property.
  2. Go to Settings, then Users and permissions.
  3. Find the Google account you connected to Search Atlas.
  4. Make sure its permission is Owner or Full.

If the account is not listed or has restricted access, ask a property Owner to upgrade it. You can also connect Search Atlas using the Google account that owns the property.

🔄 Step 3: Reconnect Google Search Console in Search Atlas

Reconnecting refreshes the connection and reloads your list of properties.

  1. In Search Atlas, open the Google Search Console connection settings for your project or account.
  2. Disconnect the current Google account if one is connected.
  3. Select the option to connect Google Search Console again.
  4. Choose the Google account that has Owner or Full access to your domain property.
  5. When Google asks for permissions, approve all requested access, including Search Console data.
  6. Return to Search Atlas and select your domain property from the list.

If you manage several Google accounts, double-check which one you picked in the Google sign-in window. Choosing the wrong one is the most common reason a property doesn't appear.

🧩 Step 4: Make Sure the Domain Matches Your Project

Check that the domain in your Search Atlas project matches your GSC property. For example, a project for yourwebsite.com should use sc-domain:yourwebsite.com or a URL-prefix property for the same site. If your project uses a different domain, subdomain, or spelling, the data may not line up.

If you track a specific subdomain, such as blog.yourwebsite.com, the domain property still works because it includes all subdomains. You may only need to filter your reports.

⏳ Step 5: Allow Time for Data to Load

Even when everything is connected correctly, data may not appear right away. Keep these timing points in mind:

  • Google typically reports Search Console data with a delay of 2 to 3 days.
  • A newly verified property may take several days to show its first data.
  • After reconnecting, Search Atlas may need some time to sync your historical data.
  • Google only provides about 16 months of past data, so older ranges will be empty.

If your property was added to GSC very recently, check back after a few days.

💡 Tips to Avoid This Issue

  • Connect with the Google account that owns the property, not a restricted user.
  • Always approve all permission requests during the Google sign-in step.
  • Keep your DNS verification record in place. Removing it can cause GSC to lose verification of a domain property.
  • Reconnect GSC after major Google account changes, such as a password reset.
  • Use consistent domain names across your projects and GSC.
