๐Ÿ” Finding and Disabling OTTO FAQ Modules

Last updated on Oct 29, 2026

โ“ Does OTTO Add Hidden Keywords to My Website?

This is one of the most common questions we hear. OTTO is built to follow search engine guidelines, and it is not designed to hide keyword text from your visitors. Hidden or invisible keyword text is a practice search engines penalize, and it is not part of how OTTO improves your site.

What OTTO can add are optimizations that help search engines understand your pages. Some of these are not obvious when you look at the page, which can make them seem hidden. The most common are:

  • FAQ content: question-and-answer sections added to a page.
  • FAQ schema (structured data): code in the page that describes your FAQs to search engines. It is not displayed as visible text.
  • Optimized page elements: updated titles, meta descriptions, headings, image alt text, and similar items.

If you saw FAQ or keyword-related code in your page source, it is most likely one of these items.

๐Ÿงญ Where These Modules Come From

OTTO applies changes to your site through its deployment connection, so you will not see them as edits inside your website editor (WordPress, Shopify, Wix, and so on). That is why you may not find them in your site's back end. They are managed from your Search Atlas account instead.

๐Ÿ”Ž How to Find the FAQ Module in Search Atlas

Menu labels may vary slightly depending on your platform version, but the general path is:

  1. Log in to your Search Atlas account.
  2. Open OTTO SEO and select the website (project) you want to review.
  3. Open the list of optimizations or deployed changes for the site.
  4. Find the page where you saw the FAQ section. You can search by page URL or filter by optimization type.
  5. Look for items labeled FAQ, schema, or structured data.
  6. Open the item to see exactly what OTTO added, including the questions and answers.

๐Ÿ›‘ How to Disable or Remove the FAQ Module

  1. Follow the steps above to open the FAQ item for the page.
  2. Choose the option to turn off, undo, or revert the change. If you only want to change the wording, edit the content instead.
  3. Confirm the action and save.
  4. Repeat for any other pages where you want the FAQ removed.

If you want to stop all OTTO changes on a specific page, look for the option to pause or exclude that page from optimization.

โฑ๏ธ Confirm the Change Is Live

After you disable a module, it may take a short time before your site shows the update. To make sure you are seeing the latest version:

  • Clear your website cache, including any caching plugin or CDN you use.
  • Reload the page in a private or incognito browser window.
  • Wait a few minutes and check again if the old content still appears.

๐Ÿงช How to Check Your Page Source Yourself

If you want to see exactly what is on a page, you can inspect it:

  1. Open the page in your browser.
  2. Right-click and choose View page source.
  3. Press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) and search for FAQPage or a question from the FAQ.
  4. If it appears inside a block of structured data, it is FAQ schema rather than hidden keyword text.

You can also paste your page URL into Google's free Rich Results Test to see which structured data is detected.

๐Ÿ’ก Helpful Tips

  • FAQ schema helps search engines understand your content and can support richer search results, so consider editing it rather than removing it if the answers are accurate.
  • Review FAQ answers to be sure they match your business and services.
  • Keep a note of the pages you changed so you can compare performance later.
