๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Fix OTTO Shopify Install Status Not Updating

Last updated on Oct 29, 2026

๐Ÿ” What This Message Means

When you run the OTTO diagnostic on a Shopify store, you may see a message saying the code is installed, but deployed fixes are not verified. This means OTTO can see its script on your site, but it has not yet confirmed that the changes it deployed are showing on your live pages.

In most cases the store is set up correctly. The status is out of date because of an old cached version of your page, or because the script is not on the theme your visitors see. The steps below fix most cases.

๐Ÿงญ Common Causes

  • Browser cache: Your browser may be showing an older copy of your page that does not include the latest OTTO changes.
  • Store or CDN cache: Shopify and other caching layers can serve a saved version of a page for a short time after you make changes.
  • Script added to the wrong theme: The script may be in a theme that is not currently published.
  • Script in the wrong place: The script may be outside the head section of the theme, or it may have been changed when the theme was saved.
  • Recent theme change: Switching, duplicating, or updating a theme can remove custom code.
  • Blockers: Ad blockers, privacy extensions, or a store password page can stop the check from seeing your pages.
  • Timing: Newly deployed fixes can take a little while to appear and be verified.

๐Ÿงน Step 1: Clear Your Browser Cache

Start here, because it is the quickest fix and the most common one.

  1. Open your store page in a new private or incognito window. This loads the page without saved data.
  2. If you want to use your normal browser, do a hard refresh. On Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + R. On Mac, press Command + Shift + R.
  3. If the status still has not changed, clear your browser cache and cookies for your store and for the Search Atlas platform in your browser settings.
  4. Close the tab, reopen the platform, and run the OTTO diagnostic again.

โœ… Step 2: Confirm the Script Is on Your Live Theme

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store and then Themes.
  2. Check which theme is marked as the current (published) theme.
  3. Open the code editor for that theme and look at the theme.liquid file.
  4. Confirm the OTTO script appears once, inside the head section of the page, before the closing head tag.
  5. If it is missing, paste it back in exactly as shown in your OTTO setup instructions and click Save.

If the script appears more than once, remove the extra copies and keep a single one. Duplicate scripts can cause unexpected results.

๐Ÿ”„ Step 3: Check for Theme Changes

  • If you recently switched or updated your theme, add the OTTO script to the new published theme.
  • If you use an app or page builder that changes your theme files, check that it did not overwrite your edits.
  • If you work with a developer, ask whether any recent changes were made to the theme code.

๐Ÿšซ Step 4: Rule Out Blockers

  • Turn off ad blockers and privacy extensions in your browser, or test in a clean private window.
  • If your Shopify store has a password page turned on, the check may not be able to reach your pages. Remove the password protection if your store is ready to be public.
  • Make sure the store domain connected to OTTO matches the domain your visitors use, including the www or non-www version.

โฑ๏ธ Step 5: Wait, Then Re-Run the Diagnostic

After you save changes or clear your cache, give the system some time to update. This can take from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on how your store caches pages. Then:

  1. Go back to the OTTO diagnostic in the platform.
  2. Run it again.
  3. Check that the status now shows your fixes as verified.

Also check that fixes have actually been deployed on the pages you are testing. Verification only applies to pages where OTTO has deployed changes.

๐Ÿ”Ž How to Check the Result Yourself

  1. Open one of the pages you expect OTTO to have changed, in a private window.
  2. Right-click the page and choose View Page Source.
  3. Search for OTTO or for the change you expect, such as an updated title or meta description.
  4. If you can see the change, the fix is live, and the status should update soon.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips to Avoid This Next Time

  • Always add the script to the published theme.
  • Re-check the script after any theme update or change.
  • Test changes in a private window so you see the current version of your site.
  • Allow some time after deploying fixes before you run the diagnostic.
