🔍 Overview
Some customers notice that the same AI Visibility data looks different in AI Visibility and Report Builder. Visibility Score is shown as a percentage in AI Visibility and as a whole number without a percent sign in Report Builder, although rounding and scope can make the figures differ. Citation totals for the same date range, such as September 1-30, may also not match.
This article explains the most common reasons for these differences, how to compare the two views fairly, and what to do if the numbers still look wrong.
❓ Why Visibility Score Looks Different
The two views are built for different purposes, so they can present the same metric differently.
- AI Visibility Summary tab: A live dashboard for monitoring. It shows Overall Visibility Score as a percentage. The score is the share of broad, unprompted AI responses in which your brand is mentioned, averaged over the selected date range.
- Report Builder: Designed for shareable, client-ready reports. Its AI Visibility Score widget shows the same kind of score as a whole number without a percent sign, not as a rank.
Because of this, 11.7% and 7 should not be converted into one another. A percentage and a number are different formats, and one cannot be calculated from the other without knowing how the widget works.
🔢 Why Citation Numbers May Not Match
Even for the same date range, citation totals can differ for these reasons:
- Different counting methods: The Summary citation card counts every source cited in responses to your queries, including competitor sources. A competitor or domain view instead counts citations of one domain. A narrower count is the same as or lower than the all-sources total.
- Different filters: AI Visibility can be filtered by date, AI platform, topic, and query. A standard AI Visibility report widget follows the report's date range and selected project, so its scope can still differ from the dashboard.
- Different scope: One view may include citations of competitors, while the other counts only your brand or domain.
- Different project or brand: If you manage several projects, the report may be linked to a different one than the dashboard.
- Data refresh timing: AI Visibility data is collected on a schedule. If one view was last updated before the other, totals can differ slightly.
✅ How to Compare the Two Views Accurately
Follow these steps to make sure you are comparing like with like.
- Open the AI Visibility Summary tab and note the project, date range, and any active filters for AI platform, topic, or query.
- Open your report in Report Builder and select the AI Visibility widget you want to check.
- Confirm the widget uses the same project as the dashboard.
- Set the report's date range to exactly match the dashboard, for example September 1 to September 30.
- Use the report's project and date range to match the dashboard. The standard AI Visibility widgets do not have separate platform, topic, or query filters to clear.
- Check the widget's label to confirm which metric it shows, such as Overall Visibility or Citations Found. The label does not by itself state whether a citation count is an all-sources total or a per-domain count.
- Save the matching date range and project configuration, let the report reload, and compare the numbers again.
💡 Tips to Avoid Confusion
- Use the AI Visibility Summary tab for day-to-day monitoring and trend tracking.
- Use Report Builder for presenting results to clients or stakeholders, and note which metric format each widget uses.
- When you share a report, mention the date range and filters so readers know what the numbers represent.
- Compare trends (up or down over time) rather than exact values across the two views.
- Avoid comparing a report generated on one day with a dashboard viewed on another day, especially if the date range includes recent days.
🛠️ If the Numbers Still Do Not Add Up
If you have matched the project, date range, and filters and the numbers still differ in a way you cannot explain, there may be a display or data issue we should review. Please gather the following before reaching out so we can resolve it faster:
- The project or brand name
- The exact date range (for example, Sept 1-30)
- Screenshots of both the AI Visibility Summary tab and the Report Builder widget
- The filters applied in each view
- The values you see in each place (for example, 11.7% and 7)
