📌 Overview
Sometimes Google Search Console (GSC) shows as connected in Search Atlas, but the report widgets are empty. This usually means the report is asking for data that doesn't match what GSC has for your site. The most common cause is a location mismatch. A mismatched date range can make it worse.
This article explains why it happens and how to fix it in a few minutes.
👀 What You May See
- GSC shows a connected status, but charts and tables in Report Builder are blank or show zeros.
- The date range on one side of the report says Last 30 days and the other side says Last 90 days.
- Other data sources in the same report load normally.
❓ Why This Happens
Report Builder pulls GSC data for the site, date range, and location selected in your report. If any of these don't line up with the data GSC holds, the widget has nothing to show. Common reasons include:
- Location mismatch: The report location (country or region) differs from where your site gets its search impressions and clicks. For example, the report is set to one country, but your traffic comes mainly from another. GSC then returns no rows for the selected location.
- Different date ranges: When one part of the report uses 30 days and another uses 90 days, the comparison can look empty or inconsistent, especially if one range has little data.
- Wrong property: The connected GSC property (for example, the domain property versus a URL-prefix property) differs from the site in your report.
- Recently connected or low-traffic sites: GSC data can take a few days to appear, and sites with very little search traffic may have no data for a narrow filter.
🛠️ How to Fix It
Follow these steps in order. Most customers find the issue in the first three.
- Open your report in Report Builder and find the location setting for the report or the GSC widget.
- Check the location. Make sure it matches the country or region where your site gets most of its search traffic. If you're unsure, set it to a broader option, such as all locations, if one is available.
- Align the date ranges. Set both sides of the report to the same range, such as Last 90 days, so you're comparing like with like. If the report still looks empty, try a longer range to confirm that data exists.
- Confirm the GSC property. Go to your integrations or connections settings and check that the connected GSC property matches the website in your report. If it doesn't, reconnect with the correct property.
- Refresh the report. Save your changes and reload the page. Widgets can take a moment to repopulate.
📅 Check the Date Range
The date range doesn't usually cause blank data by itself, but it can hide the real problem. A few tips:
- GSC data is typically delayed by about 2 to 3 days. Don't expect today's or yesterday's numbers.
- If you recently connected GSC, historical data may take time to appear. Try a shorter range that ends a few days ago.
- Use the same range on both sides of any comparison so one side doesn't look empty by contrast.
✅ Verify the Data in Google Search Console
If the report is still blank, check that GSC itself has data for your settings:
- Sign in to Google Search Console and select the same property you connected to Search Atlas.
- Open the Performance report and set the same date range.
- Add a country filter that matches your report location.
- If GSC shows no data, the report is behaving correctly. Change the location or date range in Report Builder to match where your data exists.
- If GSC shows data but Search Atlas doesn't, disconnect and reconnect GSC, then reload the report.
💡 Tips to Prevent This
- Set the report location to match your main audience when you create a report.
- Use the same date range across all widgets in a report.
- Make sure the GSC property you connect matches the exact site in your project.
- Check your property permissions in GSC. The connected Google account needs access to the property.
- After connecting GSC for the first time, wait a few days for the data to fully appear.
