🔍 Overview
Digital PR connects to your Google mailbox through Google sign-in (OAuth) so you can send and manage outreach emails from Search Atlas. If your company uses Google Workspace, your administrator may have blocked third-party apps by default. In that case, the connection fails until the admin marks the Search Atlas app as trusted.
Admins often ask for the exact OAuth Client ID so they can trust the correct app. This article explains how to find that ID, how to trust it, and how to fix common errors.
🆔 About the Search Atlas OAuth Client ID
The Client ID is a unique identifier Google assigns to an app. Because it is a security-sensitive setting, you should always confirm it with our team rather than copy it from an unofficial source. A Search Atlas teammate can give you the verified Client ID for the Digital PR email integration through live chat (see the last section).
You can also see the Client ID in your own Google Workspace records. The next section shows you how.
🧭 How to Find the Client ID in Google Workspace
If a user has already tried to connect their mailbox and was blocked, Google records the attempt. A Workspace admin can find the Client ID this way:
- Sign in to the Google Admin console as a super admin.
- Go to Reporting, then Audit and investigation, then OAuth log events.
- Filter by the user who tried to connect, or by the app name Search Atlas.
- Open the matching event and note the Client ID and the app name shown.
Menu names can change slightly over time. If you can't find these options, search the Admin console for OAuth log events.
✅ How to Trust the App in Google Workspace
Once you have the Client ID, follow these steps:
- Sign in to the Google Admin console as a super admin.
- Go to Security, then Access and data control, then API controls.
- Select Manage Third-Party App Access.
- Click Configure new app, then choose OAuth App Name Or Client ID.
- Paste the Client ID provided by Search Atlas and click Search.
- Select the matching app and click Select.
- Choose the organizational units or groups that should be able to use the app. Choose the whole organization if you are unsure.
- Set the access level to Trusted and confirm.
Changes can take some time to apply. In some cases it can take up to 24 hours, though it is usually much faster.
🔄 Reconnect Your Mailbox in Search Atlas
After the admin has trusted the app, the user should reconnect their email:
- Sign in to Search Atlas and open Digital PR.
- Open the email connection settings and choose to connect your Google account.
- Sign in with your Workspace email address.
- Review the permissions on Google's consent screen and click Allow.
If you previously saw an error, sign out of other Google accounts or use a private browser window to avoid choosing the wrong account.
🛠️ Troubleshooting Common Issues
- "App blocked" or "Access blocked" message: The app has not been trusted yet, or the setting has not finished applying. Check the app's access status in Manage Third-Party App Access and wait a little while.
- Admin can't find the app by Client ID: Check that the ID was copied in full with no extra spaces. If the app still doesn't appear, the ID may be incorrect, so ask our team to confirm it.
- Trusted, but still blocked for some users: The app may be configured only for certain organizational units or groups. Make sure the affected user belongs to one of them.
- Wrong account selected: Make sure the user signs in with the Workspace email they want to send from.
- Permissions were declined: Reconnect and allow all requested permissions. Digital PR can't send or track outreach without them.
💡 Tips for IT Administrators
- Verify the Client ID and app name in the OAuth log before you trust anything.
- Limit access to the teams that need Digital PR if your policy requires it.
- Review third-party app access periodically as part of your security checks.
