❓ What You May Be Seeing
On the Issues page for Links, you may see a message such as Connect your Website on Squarespace to Search Atlas. When you click the link in that message, the screen that opens does not show Squarespace as a choice, so you cannot finish the connection.
This article explains why that can happen, what to check, and how to fix your link issues while the connection option is unavailable.
🧠 Why This Happens
The prompt is a reminder that Search Atlas can work more directly with your site once it is connected to your content management system (CMS). The connection screen does not always list every platform, so the prompt can appear even when Squarespace is not selectable. Common causes include:
- A Squarespace connector is not available for your account or project yet.
- The page did not fully load, or a browser extension is blocking part of it.
- The project's website address does not match the site you are trying to connect.
- You are signed in to an account or workspace that does not own the project.
In most cases, you can still see and fix your link issues without the connection. The connection is a convenience, not a requirement for reviewing your issues.
✅ Quick Checks to Try First
- Refresh the page. Do a hard refresh (Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows, Cmd + Shift + R on Mac) and open the connection link again.
- Try a private window. Open Search Atlas in an incognito or private window. If Squarespace appears there, a browser extension or cached data was interfering.
- Turn off blockers. Temporarily disable ad blockers or privacy extensions for Search Atlas, then reload.
- Try another browser. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari can behave differently.
- Confirm your project. Check that the project selected at the top of the platform is the Squarespace site you want to work on, and that the domain is spelled correctly.
- Check your account. Make sure you are signed in with the account that created the project or has access to it.
- Check your Squarespace role. If a connection option does appear, you will need Administrator or Owner permissions on the Squarespace site to approve it.
🛠️ Fix Link Issues Without the Connection
If Squarespace still does not appear, you can fix most link problems directly in your Squarespace account. Use the Links issues list in Search Atlas as your to-do list.
- In Search Atlas, open the Links issues page and note the affected page URL and the problem link.
- Log in to Squarespace and open the page that contains the problem.
- Edit the page, find the link, and click it to update or remove it.
- For links that point to pages that no longer exist, either update the link to the correct address or set up a redirect.
- Save and publish your changes.
To create a redirect in Squarespace, go to Settings, then Developer Tools, then URL Mappings, and add a rule that sends the old address to the new one. Menu names can vary slightly depending on your Squarespace version.
🔄 Confirm the Fix
- Open the page on your live site and click the link to make sure it works.
- Return to the Links issues page in Search Atlas and run a new check or wait for the next scheduled update.
- Confirm the issue is no longer listed. If it still appears, allow time for the site to be re-crawled.
💡 Tips to Avoid Confusion
- Treat the Connect message as optional. It does not block you from seeing or fixing issues.
- Use the exact page URL from the issue list when searching for the link in Squarespace.
- Fix the most important pages first, such as your homepage, service pages, and top blog posts.
- Keep your project domain consistent, including whether it uses www or not.
