🚀 How OTTO Deploys and Verifies SEO Changes

Last updated on Oct 26, 2026

💡 Does OTTO Only Suggest Changes, or Does It Implement Them?

OTTO does both. It first analyzes your pages and creates optimization suggestions. Once a suggestion is deployed, OTTO applies the change to your website for you, so you do not need to edit each page by hand.

A suggestion by itself does not change your site. Changes go live only after deployment. Depending on your setup, deployment can happen in two ways:

  • Manual deployment: You review each suggestion and choose which ones to deploy.
  • Automatic deployment: If this is enabled for your project, OTTO deploys approved types of changes without waiting for you to click each one.

Deployment also requires OTTO to be properly connected to your website. If the installation is incomplete, suggestions may appear in the platform but not show on your live pages.

🧭 Understanding the Stages of a Suggestion

Each suggestion moves through simple stages. The exact labels may vary slightly in the platform, but the flow is generally the same:

  1. Suggested: OTTO has found an opportunity and recommended a change. Nothing has changed on your site yet.
  2. Deployed: The change has been sent to your website.
  3. Live: The change is visible on the page for visitors and search engines.

If a suggestion is still in the first stage, that is why you do not see any difference on your site.

📊 Where to See What OTTO Has Done So Far

To review progress, open your OTTO project in the platform and look at the playbooks and their individual suggestions. Playbooks group related recommendations together, so you can see the work for each area in one place.

Inside a playbook, you can:

  • Check the status of each suggestion to see whether it is waiting, deployed, or needs attention.
  • Open an individual suggestion to see the page it applies to and the change that was made.
  • Compare the current version of the page element with the optimized version.
  • Confirm which pages have already been updated and which are still pending.

Use these views as your breakdown of completed work. If you manage many pages, work through one playbook at a time so it is easy to track what is finished.

🔍 How to Verify Changes on Your Live Website

You can confirm that a change is live without any special tools. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the page that the suggestion applies to in your browser.
  2. Right-click anywhere on the page and choose View Page Source.
  3. Use the search shortcut (Ctrl+F on Windows or Cmd+F on Mac) to look for the updated text, such as the new title or meta description.
  4. Compare what you find with the optimized version shown in OTTO.

Some changes are easy to see right on the page, such as updated headings or text. Others, such as title tags, meta descriptions, and schema markup, are only visible in the page source or in the browser tab title.

🛠️ Other Ways to Check Your Changes

  • Google Search Console: Use the URL Inspection tool to see how Google views the page, and request indexing if you want it recrawled sooner.
  • Rich Results Test: If OTTO added schema markup, paste your page URL into Google's Rich Results Test to confirm it is detected.
  • Private browser window: Open the page in an incognito or private window to avoid seeing an older saved version.

⏳ Why You May Not See a Change Right Away

If you deployed a suggestion but cannot see the change, one of these is usually the reason:

  • Caching: Your browser, website plugin, or hosting service may be showing an older saved copy of the page. Clear your site cache and refresh the page.
  • Short delay: Changes can take a few minutes to appear after deployment.
  • Search results lag: Even after a change is live on your site, Google can take days or weeks to update how the page appears in search results.
  • Connection issue: If OTTO is not fully installed on your website, deployed changes may not reach your live pages.
  • Suggestion not deployed: The suggestion may still be waiting for approval. Check its status in the playbook.

✅ Quick Checklist

  1. Confirm OTTO is installed and connected to your website.
  2. Open the playbook and check that the suggestion status shows as deployed.
  3. Clear your website and browser cache.
  4. View the page source and look for the updated content.
  5. Use Google Search Console to monitor how the page is crawled and indexed over time.
