## **📖 Overview**

You may notice that OTTO suggests FAQ schema for some of your pages but not others. This is expected. FAQ schema is only useful when a page actually contains questions and answers, so OTTO does not recommend it for every URL. This article explains the most common reasons a suggestion does not appear and how to get one.

## **🧩 What Is FAQ Schema?**

FAQ schema is a type of structured data (code added to your page) that tells search engines your page contains a list of questions and their answers. It helps search engines understand your content more clearly. For the markup to be accurate, the questions and answers must also be visible to visitors on the page.

## **🔍 Common Reasons You Don't See a Suggestion**

- **The page has no question-and-answer content.** Pages such as a homepage, a contact page, or a product page with no Q&A section usually have nothing to mark up. Adding FAQ schema to a page without FAQs would be inaccurate and could cause problems with search engines.
- **The questions are not clearly formatted.** If your questions are buried in long paragraphs, it is harder to recognize them as a distinct FAQ. Clear question headings with answers directly below work best.
- **The page already has FAQ schema.** If valid FAQ markup is already on the page, whether from your theme, a plugin, or a previous deployment, there is nothing new to suggest.
- **The page type is not a good fit.** Some page types, such as category pages, login pages, and thank-you pages, are generally not good candidates for FAQ markup.
- **The page has not been scanned recently.** If you just added or changed content, the page may not have been picked up yet, so suggestions may not reflect your latest version.
- **The page is not accessible.** Pages that are blocked from crawling, behind a login, or returning errors cannot be analyzed properly.
- **Search engines limit where FAQ results appear.** Google now shows FAQ rich results only for a small set of sites, mainly well-known government and health websites. Because of this, FAQ schema may be a lower priority than other schema types for many pages. It can still help search engines understand your content.

## **🛠️ How to Get an FAQ Schema Suggestion**

1. Open the page in your browser and check whether it contains real questions and answers.
2. If it does not, add a short FAQ section. Write each question as a clear heading or bold line, with the answer directly beneath it.
3. Make sure the questions are ones your visitors actually ask, and that the answers are written for people rather than just for search engines.
4. Publish the updated page and confirm it is live and accessible to the public.
5. Wait for OTTO to rescan the page, then check again for a new suggestion.

## **✅ How to Check for Existing FAQ Schema**

1. Open the page you want to check.
2. Use a structured data testing tool, such as Google's Rich Results Test, and enter the page URL.
3. Look for an FAQ item in the results. If it is already listed, the page has FAQ markup and OTTO has no need to suggest it again.
4. If you see duplicate or conflicting markup, remove the extra version so only one remains.

## **💡 Best Practices for FAQ Content**

- Add FAQs only where they help the visitor. Do not add them to every page.
- Keep answers short, accurate, and easy to read.
- Do not mark up content that is not visible on the page.
- Avoid using FAQs for advertising or promotional messages.
- Review your FAQs regularly so they stay current.
