## **🔍 Overview**

If your publisher site suddenly shows as **Inactive** in your publication account, it means the site is no longer eligible to receive or publish content through the platform. This usually happens for one of two reasons: the site failed a quality re-check (such as a Domain Authority, or DA, review), or the site's ownership verification stopped working. This article explains both causes, why your DA may look different in different tools, and how to verify and resubmit your site.

## **❓ Why Did My Site Become Inactive?**

Publisher sites are checked from time to time to make sure they still meet the platform's requirements. A site can move to Inactive when:

- **The DA reading changed or was lower at the time of the check.** If the platform records a DA below the accepted level, the site may be deactivated automatically.
- **The verification meta tag was removed.** Theme changes, plugin updates, site migrations, or caching tools can delete or overwrite the tag in your site's header.
- **The site could not be reached.** Downtime, a password-protected page, or a firewall that blocks our checker can cause a failed verification.
- **The domain or its settings changed.** Switching between www and non-www, moving to HTTPS, or changing the domain can break the link between your site and your account.

## **📊 Why Is My DA Different in My Account Than in Moz?**

It is common to see two different DA numbers for the same website. For example, you may see 41 in Moz but a much lower number in your publication account. Here are the most common reasons:

- **Different data sources.** DA is a third-party estimate. Tools that read DA from different sources or at different times can show different numbers.
- **Different update timing.** DA is recalculated periodically. The value saved in your account may be older or newer than the one you see in Moz today.
- **Different versions of the address.** The score can differ between the root domain, a subdomain, and a specific URL. Make sure the address in your account exactly matches the one you checked in Moz.
- **Redirects or recent changes.** If your site recently moved, changed its address, or was redirected, the platform may have read the score of a different version of your domain.
- **Temporary lookup errors.** A failed or partial lookup can occasionally return a very low value until the next refresh.

A large gap, such as 41 versus 9, is worth reviewing. Please see the section below on what to send us so our team can investigate.

## **✅ Step 1: Check Your Site Status**

1. Log in to the platform and open your **publication account**.
2. Find your website in the list of publisher sites.
3. Note the status, the DA shown, and any message next to the site, such as a verification warning.
4. Open your site in a browser and confirm it loads normally without a login or password screen.

## **🏷️ Step 2: Re-Add the Verification Meta Tag**

The meta tag proves you own the site. If it is missing, the site cannot stay active.

1. In your publication account, open the site and choose the option to **verify** or **resubmit** it.
2. Copy the meta tag shown. It looks like a short line of code that begins with <meta name=.
3. Open your website's settings. In WordPress, use your theme's header settings or an SEO or header-and-footer plugin.
4. Paste the tag inside the <head> section of your homepage, before the closing </head> line.
5. Save your changes.
6. Clear your site cache and any CDN cache (such as your caching plugin or Cloudflare) so the new tag is visible to our checker.

## **🔎 Step 3: Confirm the Tag Is Live**

1. Open your homepage in a browser.
2. Right-click the page and select **View Page Source**.
3. Press Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) and search for **meta name**.
4. Check that the verification tag appears near the top, inside the head section, and that it matches the one in your account exactly.

If you do not see the tag, it is likely being blocked by caching or by a theme setting. Clear the cache again or check that you saved the change on the correct homepage template.

## **🚀 Step 4: Verify and Resubmit Your Site**

1. Return to your publication account.
2. Click **Verify** on the site.
3. Once verification succeeds, click **Resubmit** so the site can be reviewed again.
4. Wait for the review to complete. Status updates are not always instant, so check back after a short time.

If the site is reviewed again and the DA shown is still below the required level, resubmitting will not change the result until the DA value is refreshed. In that case, our team can review it with you.

## **💡 Tips to Prevent Your Site From Going Inactive**

- Keep the verification meta tag in place permanently. Do not remove it after the first verification.
- Re-check the tag after theme updates, plugin updates, or site migrations.
- Keep your site online, publicly accessible, and free of password protection.
- Use the same exact domain version (with or without www, HTTP or HTTPS) in your account as on your live site.
- Avoid adding the same site more than once under different address versions.
- Check your site's authority regularly and keep publishing quality content that earns links over time.

## **📋 What to Send Us If the DA Looks Wrong**

If your DA in the platform is far from what you see elsewhere, having the right details helps us resolve it faster. Please prepare:

- The exact website address as it appears in your publication account.
- A screenshot of the DA shown in your publication account.
- A screenshot of the DA shown in Moz, including the date and the address you searched.
- The date your site became inactive.
- Confirmation that the verification meta tag is live (from the page source check above).
