## **🔍 Why duplicate scans can happen**

Geogrid scans run asynchronously, which means processing may continue after a scan is submitted. In some cases, a recovery process can incorrectly treat an active scan as stuck in **PENDING** status and start it again. This can create duplicate provider work and duplicate geogrid pin records.

This issue is related to scan recovery handling, not the monthly automation schedule. Automated scans are still intended to run only once during their scheduled interval.

## **💳 Are duplicate scans charged twice?**

Not necessarily. In the reported incident, the duplicate scan activity did not result in a second geogrid credit charge. Duplicate processing and duplicate credit usage are separate issues, so your credit balance must be checked before restoration is considered.

## **🛠️ What happens to affected credits?**

Credit restoration is reviewed case by case. The current fix is designed to prevent recovery sweepers from restarting scans that still have asynchronous processing or an active batch job. Credit restoration is not automatically included in that fix.

If your balance appears lower than expected, keep the affected project, scan dates, and geogrid details available for review. The team can verify whether credits were actually deducted and determine the appropriate next step.

## **✅ How to report a duplicate scan**

1. Open the affected project and identify the duplicate geogrid scans.
2. Record the scan dates, approximate times, location settings, and affected keywords.
3. Compare your geogrid credit balance before and after the scans, if that information is available.
4. Open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and type **human teammate** to be instantly connected with a member of our team.

## **🚀 How Search Atlas is preventing repeats**

The prevention work updates recovery checks so they skip geogrids with asynchronous processing still pending or with a live batch job. This helps prevent an in-flight scan from being mistaken for a stuck scan and dispatched again.

Until the prevention update is fully available, a duplicate-looking result does not always mean that two credits were charged. Verification of the account activity is required.
