When you trigger a site crawl in Search Atlas, the process runs in the background so you can continue working. This article explains how to check your crawl status, where to find completed results, and what to expect in terms of timing.
Search Atlas provides a dedicated area within the platform where you can monitor the progress of an active or recently completed crawl. Look for crawl-related options within the site audit or SEO tools section of the left sidebar. Once inside the crawl or audit area, you should see a real-time view of crawl progress, the current state of the crawl, and any errors encountered.
While a crawl is running or after it completes, the platform displays a status indicator. Common states you may encounter include:
Waiting or queued — The crawl has been requested and is waiting to start. This is normal during periods of high demand.
In progress or processing — The crawl is actively running and pages are being discovered and analysed.
Completed or finished — The crawl finished successfully and results are ready to review.
Failed or error — The crawl encountered a problem and did not complete. Triggering a new crawl usually resolves this.
If your crawl appears to be running for an unusually long time without progressing, refer to the timing guidance below before taking action.
Crawl duration depends on the size and complexity of your website. Smaller sites will generally complete much faster than larger ones. Factors that can slow a crawl include slow server response times, rate-limiting by the host, large amounts of JavaScript rendering, and a high number of redirects or broken links.
If your crawl has been running for several hours without any sign of progress or completion, it is generally safe to cancel it and trigger a fresh crawl from the crawl or audit settings area of the platform.
Once a crawl is complete, your results become available within the site audit and page-level reporting sections of the platform. Look for audit findings and individual page data in the relevant areas of the OTTO SEO or site audit tools in the left sidebar.
If you started a crawl and cannot locate the results, first confirm that the crawl has fully completed by checking its current status in the crawl monitoring area. If the crawl shows a failed or stuck state, trigger a new scan from the crawl or audit settings area of the platform.
