🔍 Overview

Some customers have reported that their Keyword Rank Tracker quota reaches its limit within the first few days of a new billing cycle, even when the number of tracked keywords and client projects has not changed significantly. This article explains the known causes of this issue, what has been fixed, and how to investigate if you are still affected.

⚠️ Known Causes of Early Quota Exhaustion

Our engineering team identified and resolved several root causes behind unexpected quota depletion in the Rank Tracker. Understanding these will help you determine whether your account was affected:

Stale cached keyword counters: The system was using outdated cached counts of tracked keywords rather than live figures. This caused the platform to overestimate usage and exhaust your quota faster than your actual keyword volume warranted.

FAILURE-stuck projects inflating counts: Projects that became stuck in a FAILURE state were still being counted toward your total tracked keyword quota, even though they were not actively refreshing data.

Silent refresh failures: When quota was genuinely exhausted, SERP refreshes stopped silently with no notification. You may have seen a generic error message — "Could not refresh SERPs at the moment" — with no indication that quota was the cause.

False "out of quota" errors: In some cases, SERP refreshes were blocked by an incorrect quota check even when sufficient quota was actually available.

✅ What Has Been Fixed

The following issues have been resolved by the engineering team:

Stale cached keyword counters are no longer used to calculate quota consumption — the system now references accurate, live counts.

FAILURE-stuck projects no longer inflate your tracked keyword quota.

The generic error message when a SERP refresh fails due to quota exhaustion has been replaced with a clear, informative message explaining that your quota has been reached.

The false "out of quota" error that blocked refreshes despite available quota has been corrected.

Note: A notification system to proactively alert you when your tracking quota is running low is currently in development and will be available in a future release.

🛠️ How to Investigate Your Current Quota Usage

If you are still experiencing early quota exhaustion after the fixes above, follow these steps to audit your Rank Tracker setup:

Navigate to the Rank Tracker section of the platform to view all of your active tracking projects.

Make sure all projects are fully loaded and visible — do not rely on a partial view alone.

Review each project and look for any that appear stuck, inactive, or show an error status.
