Every Search Atlas plan includes a set number of **OTTO sites** — the domains or subdomains you can actively manage with OTTO SEO automation. If your current plan covers fewer sites than you need, you have two options: **add extra site quota (top-up)** or **upgrade to a higher-tier plan**. This article explains both options so you can choose the right path for your situation.



## 📋 Understanding OTTO Site Quotas

An OTTO site quota is the total number of domains or subdomains you can connect and manage under OTTO SEO at any one time. For example, if your plan includes 2 OTTO sites and you need to manage 4 company-owned domains, you will need additional quota before you can activate OTTO on the extra domains.

- **Each unique domain counts as one site** — for example, *example.com* and *shop.example.com* are counted separately.
- Quota is tied to your account, not to individual users.
- Activating OTTO on a domain uses one quota slot; disengaging OTTO on a site does not free the slot or reduce your bill. To free a slot, delete the project (freed right away) or use Deep Freeze (freed after 14 days). To stop a top-up charge, cancel the top-up in Billing → Services.

## ➕ Option 1: Top Up Your OTTO Site Quota

A **top-up** (also called a site quota add-on) lets you purchase additional OTTO site slots without changing your existing plan. This is the fastest option when you only need a small number of extra sites and are otherwise happy with your current plan limits.

**When a top-up makes sense:**

- Your plan meets all your other needs (keywords, pages, users) but you need a few more OTTO-managed domains.
- You want to avoid the cost of a full plan upgrade just to unlock additional sites.
- You need flexibility to scale domains independently of other plan features.

**How to request a top-up:**

1. Log in to Search Atlas and go to **OTTO SEO** from the left sidebar.
2. Click **Quotas** to review your current OTTO site usage and limits.
3. If you need additional slots, open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and type **human teammate** to be connected with a member of our team who can add quota directly to your account.

## ⬆️ Option 2: Upgrade Your Plan

A **plan upgrade** moves your account to a higher-tier subscription that includes a larger OTTO site quota alongside increased limits for other features such as tracked keywords, pages crawled, AI content credits, and more.

**When an upgrade makes sense:**

- You are reaching the limits of multiple features — not just OTTO sites.
- You are scaling your SEO operations significantly and need headroom across the board.
- The cost of multiple top-ups approaches or exceeds the price of the next plan tier.

**How to explore upgrade options:**

1. Click your **Avatar** in the top-right corner and select **Billing**.
2. Go to **Plans & Top-ups** to see a breakdown of your current plan limits and usage.
3. Click **Change Plan** to compare what each plan tier includes.
4. If you are ready to upgrade or want a personalised recommendation, open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and type **human teammate** to speak with our team.

- **Top-up:** Adds only OTTO site slots — ideal for targeted, small-scale expansion without changing your plan.
- **Upgrade:** Increases OTTO site quota plus all other plan features — ideal for broader growth across your SEO workflow.
- **Cost:** A top-up is typically a smaller incremental cost; an upgrade is a larger step but delivers more overall value if multiple limits are being hit.
- **Speed:** Both options can be activated quickly; top-ups are often applied immediately upon confirmation.

## ❓ Frequently Asked Questions

**Can I mix top-ups with a plan upgrade?**  
Yes. You can upgrade your plan and still add further site quota top-ups on top if your needs grow beyond the new plan's included slots.

**What happens to my top-up slots if I upgrade later?**  
Your provisioned quota is preserved when your billing is updated. If you upgrade, the new plan's included sites replace your base quota, and any add-on slots are carried over. Our team can confirm the exact count for your account.

**Will I lose OTTO data if I run out of quota?**  
If you exceed your site quota, you will not be able to activate OTTO on new domains until more slots are available. Existing active sites and their data are not affected.

**I upgraded but still see an error about quota being exhausted — what should I do?**  
This can occasionally occur during billing system updates. Open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and type **human teammate** to be connected with a member of our team who can resolve the quota sync manually.
