Search Atlas distributes press releases through established distribution channels rather than a geographic filter you apply manually. This article explains how the current system works and what options exist for reaching local or regional audiences.



## **🗺️ How Distribution Works**

When you create and publish a press release in Search Atlas, you select one or more distribution channels to publish through. You are choosing *which networks* carry your release — not a specific state, city, or region.

There is currently **no direct geographic or state-level targeting filter** inside the platform. You cannot hand-pick a list of states or regions and restrict distribution to only those areas.



## **📡 The Closest Option: Local Distribution**

If reaching a local or regional audience is your goal, look for any locally focused distribution channel option available within your press release publishing workflow. Such channels typically distribute your release to a curated network of local and regional news outlets. Keep in mind:

- **What a local channel does:** Distributes your press release to local and regional news outlets.
- **What a local channel does not do:** Allow you to hand-pick specific states, cities, or individual outlets within that network. The local network is curated by the channel itself, not by you.

Selecting a locally focused channel when publishing gives your release the best chance of appearing in regionally relevant outlets, but the exact geographic reach is determined by the channel's own network.

1. Navigate to the press release distribution section of your Search Atlas account.
2. Start a new release or open an existing draft.
3. When choosing distribution channels, select any locally or regionally focused channel option if a local audience is your priority.
4. Consider combining a local channel with broader channels to maximize overall reach alongside local distribution.

## **🗓️ Roadmap: What's Coming**

Geo-targeted press release distribution — the ability to select specific geographic areas directly within the platform — is on the product roadmap as a planned feature. It is not available yet. We cannot confirm a release date at this time.
