## **🔍 Overview**

If you recently disavowed a backlink or removed a link from your site and it still appears as a referring domain in Search Atlas, you are not experiencing an error. This is expected behavior. This article explains why disavowed backlinks persist in your reports and what the typical timeline looks like before they disappear.

## **📋 How Referring Domain Reporting Works in Search Atlas**

Search Atlas populates your referring domains data based on what is currently indexed and recorded in its link database. When a backlink is removed from the source website or added to your Google disavow file, Search Atlas does not instantly remove it from your report. The link remains visible until the following conditions are met:

- **Google recrawls the source page** and confirms the link is no longer present.
- **Search Atlas updates its index** based on the refreshed crawl data from that source page.

Both steps must occur before the referring domain is removed from your report. Neither step is triggered by your action on your own website or in Google Search Console.

## **⏱️ How Long Does It Take for a Disavowed Link to Disappear?**

There is no fixed timeline. The removal of a referring domain from your Search Atlas report depends entirely on how frequently Google recrawls the source page. Typical ranges are:

- **Low-authority or infrequently updated pages:** Several weeks to a few months.
- **High-authority or frequently updated pages:** Days to a few weeks.

Seeing a disavowed link still listed 2–3 weeks after removal is completely normal. Most customers see the link drop from their referring domains list within 4–8 weeks, though outliers exist in both directions.

## **🛠️ What Re-crawling Your Own Site Does (and Does Not) Do**

Re-crawling your own website in Search Atlas refreshes the data Search Atlas holds about **your** pages. It does not trigger a recrawl of the external source pages that link to you. For that reason, re-crawling your site will not accelerate the removal of a backlink from your referring domains list.

## **✅ How to Confirm Your Disavowal Was Processed Correctly**

While the link persists in Search Atlas, you can verify your disavowal is in place by following these steps:

1. Go to **Google Search Console** and open the Disavow Links tool for your property.
2. Confirm that the domain or URL you want ignored (for example, *fudogmedia.com*) is included in your uploaded disavow file.
3. Return to Search Atlas and navigate to **Left sidebar → Site Metrics → Backlinks** to view your backlink and referring domain data.
4. Note the referring domain and check the date it was first detected. This helps you track how long it has been present after disavowal.

If your disavow file is correctly submitted to Google, no further action is required. The link's presence in Search Atlas at this stage does not mean Google is still passing negative signals from it.

## **⚠️ What This Does Not Affect**

It is important to understand what the persistent listing does and does not mean for your SEO:

- **Google's treatment of the link:** Once Google processes your disavow file, it ignores the link for ranking purposes regardless of what Search Atlas displays.
- **Your domain's authority score in Search Atlas:** Search Atlas may still count the referring domain in aggregate metrics until the crawl data is updated. This is a reporting lag, not a signal that the disavowal failed.
- **Your action required:** None. If the disavow file is submitted correctly, no additional steps are needed on your end.

## **📊 Monitoring the Link Over Time**

To keep track of when the referring domain eventually drops from your report, you can follow these steps:

1. Navigate to **Left sidebar → Site Metrics → Backlinks** in Search Atlas.
2. Open your backlink or referring domains report for the relevant project.
3. Search or filter for the specific domain you disavowed.
4. Note the current date and check back in 2–4 week intervals.

Once Google recrawls the source page and Search Atlas updates its data, the referring domain will be removed from your list automatically with no action needed from you.
