# **🔍 Overview**

OTTO's category dropdown for auto-sync currently supports three WordPress post types out of the box: **Blog**, **Procedures**, and **Locations**. If your WordPress site uses custom post types — such as **articles**, **resources**, **events**, or any other non-standard type — these will not appear in the dropdown by default. This is a platform limitation, not a configuration error on your end.

# **📋 Supported Post Types in OTTO Auto-Sync**

The following post types are natively recognised by OTTO's category dropdown:

- **Blog** — Standard WordPress blog posts
- **Procedures** — Typically used by medical or service-based sites
- **Locations** — Used for multi-location business pages

Any WordPress post type outside this list — including custom post types registered by themes, plugins, or custom code — is not currently supported natively in the dropdown.

# **❓ Why Custom Post Types Don't Appear**

OTTO's auto-sync category selector maps to a predefined set of post type identifiers. When WordPress registers a custom post type (for example, `articles`), OTTO does not automatically detect or list it because the dropdown is not dynamically populated from your WordPress post type registry. This means refreshing categories, clearing cache, or reconnecting your CMS integration will not resolve the missing post type — those steps only apply to standard supported types.

# **⚙️ How to Work Around Custom Post Type Limitations**

If your content lives in a custom post type, you have two practical options to bring it into OTTO's auto-sync workflow:

1. **Remap your content to a supported post type.** In WordPress, you can reassign existing custom post type content to the standard **post** type (which maps to Blog in OTTO). This may require a plugin such as Post Type Switcher or a small code change. Once content is under a supported post type, it will be available in OTTO's dropdown immediately.
2. **Request custom post type mapping.** Search Atlas can enable custom post type support for your account on a case-by-case basis. To request this, open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and type **human teammate** to be connected with a member of our team. Provide the exact slug of your custom post type (for example, `articles`) and a member of our team will confirm whether mapping is available for your plan.

# **🛠️ Steps to Verify Your Current CMS Post Type Slug**

Before reaching out, confirm the exact slug OTTO would need to map. Follow these steps in WordPress:

1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
2. Navigate to **Settings → Permalinks** and save (this flushes rewrite rules and confirms post type slugs are active).
3. Go to any post in your custom post type and check the URL structure — the segment after your domain root is typically the post type slug (for example, `yoursite.com/articles/post-name` indicates the slug is **articles**).
4. Alternatively, if you have access to your theme's `functions.php` or a custom plugin file, search for `register_post_type` — the first argument is the slug.

Note this slug exactly as it is case-sensitive.

# **🔗 Where to Find OTTO Auto-Sync Settings**

To access the category dropdown and auto-sync options in OTTO:

1. In the left sidebar, click **OTTO SEO**.
2. Click **All Sites (SEO Automation)**.
3. Open your individual project.
4. Navigate to the **Auto-Sync** or **Category** settings panel within the OTTO dashboard.
4. The dropdown will display only the three supported post types listed above.

If your custom post type has been successfully mapped by the Search Atlas team, it will appear in this list after the mapping is applied to your account.
