## **🔍 Overview**

If you need to move a project from your Search Atlas account to a colleague's or client's account — for example, handing a project off to an SEO manager who has set up their own account — this guide explains your options and the steps to take.

## **⚙️ How Project Ownership Transfer Works**

Search Atlas does not currently support an automated one-click transfer of a project between two separate accounts. However, there is a straightforward workaround that allows your SEO manager (or any other account holder) to recreate the project in their account and pick up right where you left off.

## **🛠️ Option 1: Add the New Owner as a Team Member First**

The quickest way to give another account holder full access to your project is to invite them as a team member on your account. This lets them view and work on all project data without needing a separate account. To do this:

1. Log in to your Search Atlas account.
2. Navigate to your account settings and open the **Team Members** section.
3. Invite the new owner using their email address and assign them an appropriate role.
4. Once they accept the invitation, they can access the project immediately.

If the goal is for them to eventually manage the project entirely under their own account, this step also gives them time to review all existing settings and data before the transition.

## **📋 Option 2: Recreate the Project in the New Account**

If the project must live exclusively in the new owner's account, the most reliable approach is to document your current project setup and rebuild it there. Follow these steps:

1. **Export or note your current project data.** Before making any changes, record your tracked keywords, rank tracking settings, and any configurations saved in your project.
2. **Document your Rank Tracker keywords.** Go to **Left sidebar → Keywords → Rank Tracker** and export or copy your keyword list so nothing is lost.
3. **Note your Site Explorer setup.** Go to **Left sidebar → Site Metrics (Site Explorer)** and record the domains or URLs you have been monitoring.
4. **Check any Local project settings.** If your project includes local SEO work, go to **Left sidebar → Local → GBP Projects** and review your configurations across Overview, Posts, Reviews, and Local Citations.
5. **Share this information with the new account owner.** Send them your exported data, keyword lists, and any notes on campaign strategy.
6. **The new owner rebuilds the project in their account.** Using the shared information, they create a new project, add the same domain, import the keyword list, and configure settings to match.

## **💡 Tips for a Smooth Handover**

- **Export keyword lists as CSV files** where available — this makes it easy to bulk-import them into the new account.
- **Take screenshots of dashboards** before the transition so historical context is not lost.
- **Keep the original project active** until the new account owner confirms everything is set up correctly in their account.
- **Historical ranking data** starts fresh in the new account from the date the project is created — this is expected behaviour and not an error.

## **❓ Frequently Asked Questions**

**Will historical data transfer to the new account?** No. Rank tracking history, site metrics snapshots, and other historical data are tied to the originating account. The new account will begin collecting fresh data from the moment the new project is created.

**Can I transfer Local SEO project data?** Local project configurations, such as GBP connections, citations, and post history, cannot be automatically moved. The new owner will need to reconnect their Google Business Profile and reconfigure their local settings under **Left sidebar → Local → GBP Projects**.

**Is there a limit to how many team members I can add?** Team member limits depend on your current subscription plan. Check your plan details in your account settings for more information.
