## **🧩 What Does the Schema Detection Ratio Mean?**

When Search Atlas audits your site, it checks every crawled page for valid schema markup. The ratio displayed — for example, **1/124** — means that out of 124 pages crawled, only 1 page was found to have detectable, properly implemented schema markup.

This does **not** necessarily mean your schema deployment failed entirely. It means the tool found schema on fewer pages than expected based on your total crawled page count.

## **⚠️ Common Reasons for a Low Detection Ratio**

- **Schema applied to one page only:** If you deployed schema to a single page (such as your homepage) but not site-wide, only that page will register.
- **JavaScript-rendered schema:** Schema injected via JavaScript may not be picked up if the crawler processes pages before the script executes. Search Atlas recommends implementing schema in raw HTML or via server-side rendering.
- **Incorrect placement:** Schema must be placed inside a **`<script type="application/ld+json">`** tag within the page's HTML. Incorrect tag types or malformed JSON will cause detection to fail.
- **Noindex or blocked pages:** Pages blocked by robots.txt or marked noindex may be crawled but schema on those pages will not count toward your accessible inventory.
- **Plugin or CMS conflicts:** If you are using a WordPress plugin or CMS extension to deploy schema, conflicts with caching plugins or theme code can strip the markup before the page is served.
- **Schema only on specific page types:** If your schema is scoped to product pages, blog posts, or FAQs and your site has a large number of other page types, the ratio will appear low by design.

## **🛠️ How to Diagnose the Issue**

1. Open Search Atlas and navigate to **OTTO SEO → Site Audit** in the left sidebar to view your report.
2. Locate the schema markup finding and click through to see which specific URLs have schema detected versus which do not.
3. Pick a sample URL that should have schema and paste it into **Google's Rich Results Test** (search.google.com/test/rich-results) to confirm whether schema is visible to crawlers.
4. View the raw page source (right-click → View Page Source in your browser) and search for **application/ld+json**. If it does not appear, the markup is either missing or rendered client-side only.
5. Validate your schema JSON using **Schema.org's validator** (validator.schema.org) to catch syntax errors or missing required properties.

## **✅ How to Improve Your Schema Coverage**

- **Deploy schema site-wide where appropriate:** Add Organisation or WebSite schema globally, and use page-specific schema types (Article, Product, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList) on the relevant templates.
- **Use server-side or static HTML implementation:** Avoid relying solely on JavaScript to inject schema. Ensure the markup is present in the initial HTML response.
- **Update your CMS template files:** If your site uses a CMS like WordPress, Shopify, or Webflow, add schema to your theme templates so it applies to all pages of a given type automatically.
- **Re-crawl after changes:** Once you have made updates, trigger a new crawl in Search Atlas so the tool picks up your changes and recalculates the detection ratio.
- **Prioritise high-value pages first:** If a full site-wide rollout is not immediately possible, focus on your top landing pages, product pages, and blog posts to increase coverage quickly.

## **📊 What Is a Healthy Schema Ratio?**

There is no single universal benchmark, as the ideal ratio depends on your site's content and goals. However, as a general guide:

- Most pages that are publicly accessible and indexable should carry at least one schema type.
- A ratio below **10%** on a content-heavy site typically indicates a deployment gap worth addressing.
- Purely functional pages such as login, cart, or account pages do not require schema, so some gap is normal and expected.

The goal is to ensure that every page where schema would add value to search engines — product pages, articles, local business pages, FAQs — is covered.
