# **🧭 Overview**

If you need to point OTTO to a different domain — for example, after a site migration or when managing multiple properties — you cannot edit the domain of an existing OTTO project in place. Instead, you must create a new OTTO project for the new domain and install its pixel. This article walks you through the correct steps and reinstalling the OTTO Pixel on your new URL.

# **⚠️ Before You Begin**

- Make sure you have the login credentials for the website you are switching to, so you can reinstall the OTTO Pixel after the domain change.
- Changing your domain will disconnect OTTO from the current site. Any deployed optimisations on the old domain will no longer be managed by OTTO.
- You will need to complete a new Site Audit crawl on the new domain before OTTO can generate or deploy recommendations.

# **🔄 Step 1 — Open OTTO in the Platform**

1. Log in to your Search Atlas account.
2. In the left sidebar, click **OTTO SEO**, then open **SEO Automation**. This takes you to the OTTO dashboard at **/seo-automation-v3**.
3. Confirm that the domain currently connected to OTTO is shown at the top of the dashboard.

# **🌐 Step 2 — Navigate to Site Audit**

1. In the left sidebar, click **OTTO SEO**, then select **Site Audit**.
2. You will see a list of all site projects associated with your account.
3. Find the project that corresponds to the domain you want to use going forward. If the new domain does not yet have a project, you can add the domain directly in OTTO and the Site Audit project will be created automatically.

# **⚙️ Step 3 — Activate OTTO on the New Project**

1. Open the Site Audit project for your new domain.
2. Run a full crawl if one has not been completed recently. OTTO requires up-to-date crawl data before it can be activated.
3. Once the crawl is complete, click the **Activate OTTO** button within the Site Audit project. This activates OTTO for the newly created project for your new domain.

# **📦 Step 4 — Reinstall the OTTO Pixel**

After connecting OTTO to the new domain, you must install the OTTO Pixel on the new site so OTTO can deploy on-page optimisations. Choose the method that matches your setup:

- **WordPress:** Install the Search Atlas WordPress plugin on the new site, then connect it using your API key found in your Search Atlas account settings.
- **Google Tag Manager:** Add a new Custom HTML tag in GTM for your new domain and paste in the OTTO Pixel code snippet. Set the trigger to **All Pages** and publish the container.
- **Manual installation:** Copy the OTTO Pixel code snippet and paste it into the `<head>` section of every page on your new site, or add it via your theme's header settings.

To find your OTTO Pixel code snippet, return to the OTTO dashboard by clicking **OTTO SEO** in the left sidebar and opening **SEO Automation**, then click **Setup** or the pixel installation prompt, and copy the code displayed there.

# **✅ Step 5 — Verify the Connection**

1. Return to the OTTO dashboard by clicking **OTTO SEO** in the left sidebar and opening **SEO Automation**.
2. Confirm that the new domain is now displayed as the active connected site.
3. Check that the OTTO Pixel status shows as **Connected** or **Active**. If it shows as undetected, clear your site cache and wait a few minutes before refreshing.

# **❓ Frequently Asked Questions**

- **Is there a 'Change Domain' button in OTTO Settings?** No. The domain of an existing OTTO project cannot be edited in place. To move OTTO to a different domain (including www vs non-www), you must create a new OTTO project for the new domain and install its pixel.
- **What happens to my old domain's optimisations?** OTTO will no longer manage or update the optimisations deployed on the old domain. Those changes remain on the old site but will not be modified or removed automatically.
- **Can I connect multiple domains to OTTO at the same time?** Each OTTO activation is tied to one domain per project. You can manage separate domains by creating individual Site Audit projects and activating OTTO within each one, depending on your plan limits.
- **Do I need to re-enter my settings after switching domains?** Yes. OTTO will generate a fresh set of recommendations based on the new domain's crawl data. Previous configurations and deployed tasks are not transferred between domains.
